Here’s what we are working on this week:

Literacy

  • Rereading to learn more about characters in books
  • Becoming the character by changing our voice
  • Writing realistic fiction by inventing characters and small moment adventures
  • Writing a series based on one character
  • Specific word work

Math

  • Read and write time to hour and half hour
  • Adding and subtracting within 100
  • Collecting data and graphing results
  • Addition fluency

Science

  • Planning and conducting investigations to show that vibrating materials can make sound and sound can make materials vibrate
  • Using tools and materials to design and build a device that uses light or sound to solve the problem of communicating over a distance
  • Making observations to construct an evidence-based account that objects in darkness can be seen only when illuminated

  • Read for 20 minutes each night and record in the Reading Log
  • Retell the beginning, middle and end of the story you are reading
  • Practice reading with fluency
  • Practice word patterns by sorting weekly word cards

  • Using the storyline to make predictions
  • Editing and revising book reviews to make sure opinions are clear and interesting
  • Specific word work

Math

  • Read and write time to hour and half hour
  • Addition fluency

Science

  • Planning and conducting investigations to show that vibrating materials can make sound and sound can make materials vibrate

  • Taking charge of our reading by noticing tricky words and asking “Does it look right?”,“Does it sound right?”, “Does it make sense?”.
  • Make movies to picture what is happening in stories.
  • Writing reviews – adding Introductions and Conclusions and working together to edit writing.
  • Specific word work

Math

  • Distinguishing between defining attributes vs. non-defining attributes of shapes.
  • Partitioning circles and rectangles into 2 and 4 equal shares and describe the shares using the words halves, fourths, and quarters.

Social Studies

  • Giving and following directions (right, left, straight)

        TuesdayNo plastic bag/bottle day and Pick up trash day (reusable plastic water bottles are okay!)

        Thursday: Recycle art day. As a class, we will be creating paper mache representations of the Earth. If you have old newspapers, could you please send them to school before Thursday.
