Summer Reading

Your child has been working hard all year on solving tricky words, making predictions, and thinking about characters, and their growth has been amazing!  In order to maintain their hard work and progress over the summer it is important that your child read 30 minutes every day, or a total of 210 minutes a week.
Research shows that students who do not read during the summer months regress in their reading skills.  Luckily, we can prevent this from happening by having our children read:  books, magazines, audiobooks, menus, etc.
Let’s help our students pick up where they left off in June when they return to school in August. Have conversations about books they are reading, and let them see you reading.  The summer is a busy time, with travel, friends, and unpredictable schedules.  Many families have found it helpful to have a routine in place to help families know when and where the reading is happening each day.

Below are a few reading lists to help your child discover some great books to lose themselves in!
